About Crushed Aleppo Chile Pepper
Aleppo pepper is growing in popularity, loved for its beautifully complex flavor and a mild heat that builds slowly. The flavor profile is fruity and earthy with hints of raisin and a bit of a sweet-and-sour aftertaste. It can be used in place of cayenne, crushed red pepper flakes, or paprika.
Crushed Aleppo pepper is a delicious addition to dry rubs, marinades, and pretty much any type of grilled meat. Use it in soups, sauces, pasta dishes and as a topping for pizza, eggs, salads, or baked squash. It’s also pairs amazingly well with cinnamon and sweets like chocolate brownies and spicy hot chocolate.
Aleppo chile pepper is native to the region around the city of Aleppo in Syria, but due to the ongoing conflict in this region its production in this area has ceased. Our crushed Aleppo pepper is cultivated in Turkey.
Aleppo chiles are also known as the Halaby pepper and have a deep burgundy color. Sometimes salt is used in the process of drying Aleppo chiles; ours were not processed using salt.
