Peri Peri Sauce is a bold (and growing in popularity) African sauce that combines hot chile peppers, roasted red peppers, lots of lemon juice, vinegar, olive oil, and seasonings to create an unmistakably delicious flavor combo. There are many variations of this sauce, some of them extremely spicy. Our peri peri sauce recipe is not too hot — feel free to add more heat if you like!
Makes: 2-3 cups of sauce
Cook time: 40 minutes
Total time: 1 hour
2 red bell peppers, cut in half and remove stems
1 red onion, cut into quarters
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 T Peri Peri Seasoning
1 tsp salt
Juice of 2 lemons
¼ cup red wine vinegar
¼ cup olive oil
Preheat the oven to 400°F. Arrange the bell peppers and red onion on a baking sheet and brush lightly with olive oil. Roast in the oven for 20 minutes. Use tongs to flip, then roast the other sides for another 10-15 minutes. The peppers should be soft with some charring on the skin.
Let the roasted peppers and onion slices cool a bit.
Add all of the ingredients (except olive oil) to your food processor and puree until smooth. Now slowly add the olive oil and continue to puree until it’s well combined.
That’s it! Keep your peri peri sauce in a jar or sealed container in the refrigerator. If you want to make peri peri chicken, marinate your chicken in the sauce for several hours (or overnight). Grill or bake your chicken as desired and serve with additional peri peri sauce on the side. Enjoy!
